Giving Campaign 2021- In lieu of our annual Gala, we hosted a giving campaign, Gratitude in Magnitude. The money raised from this campaign will go directly to support patients and families from around the world, and bring more laughter and smiles to Boston Children’s Hospital. 

A Virtual Evening with Natalie Silverstein- On March 4, 2021, the League hosted its third Virtual Book Group featuring Natalie Silverstein, MPH. Natalie is the author of Simple Acts, The Busy Family’s Guide to Giving Back. Attendees received tips on how to incorporate community service into a family’s busy life, engaging children of all ages.

Hand-Knit Hat Fundraiser- During the 20/21 holiday and winter season, BCHL Board Member and past League President, Lauren Harrison, transferred her knitting talents into a fundraiser for the League, raising over $3,000 with the sale of 125 beautifully hand-knit colorful creations. Thank you, Lauren, for your unwavering support of the League and for warming our hearts during this unprecedented time.

Fall Board Meeting 2020- On November 18, 2020 the League hosted a Virtual Fall Board Meeting featuring Erica Lee, PhD, and Keneisha Sinclair-McBride, PhD, both Attending Psychologists in the BCH Department of Psychiatry. The timely and informative discussion focused specifically on Stress Management for Families in the Age of COVID-19. 

Boston Children’s Hospital League Giving Week 2020- The League hosted the first of its kind Giving Week (in lieu of the annual Gala) from October 5-9, 2020, raising close to $300,000 for Boston Children’s Hospital.  These funds enable the League to continue to support so many critical patient-focused programs at BCH, many of which rely solely on philanthropy from the League.  Specials thanks to both long-standing and new supporters for your generosity. 

A Virtual Evening with Marjan Kamali- On September 14, 2020, the League hosted its second Virtual Book Group featuring Marjan Kamali, author of The Stationery Shop, and moderated by Denise Rosenblum, League VP of Membership. The novel is a poignant, heartfelt story exploring loss, reconciliation, and the quirks of fate. 

Eversource Virtual Walk for Boston Children’s Hospital 2020- On June 14, 2020, the League raised over $45,000, the second highest overall fundraising team, by participating in the Eversource Virtual Walk, all in support of Child Life Services at BCH.  The virtual format provided walkers with exercise and family-fun!! 

 

A Virtual Evening with Kerri Maher- On June 9, 2020, the League hosted its very first Virtual Book Group featuring Kerri Maher, local author of the Girl in White Gloves, and moderated by radio personality Sue Brady.  The book, centered on the life of Grace Kelly, allowed for a lively and interesting discussion. Special thanks to Sue Brady for donating her time and contributing to the success of this event.

 

Spring Board Meeting 2020– On May 20, 2020, the League hosted the very first virtual Spring Board Meeting, hosted by members of the Child Life Department, including Beth Donegan, Director of Child Life, Kirsten Getchell, Clinical and Program Manager BCH, and Mark Fuller, board certified Music Therapist. Participants were educated about changes implemented in the department since the beginning of the pandemic, as well as the many innovative ideas initiated, allowing Child Life to maintain the high level of care historically provided at BCH. In addition, the League presented annual giving of close to $385,400 to the Trust, representing funding to 11 different essential programs at Boston Children’s Hospital.

 

Holiday Marketplace “Sip, Shop and Schmooze”– On December 4, 2019, the League hosted its first Holiday Marketplace. The event included 20 local vendors ranging from jewelry designers to candy purveyors, and everything in between. Each vendor donated a share of their proceeds from the sales to the League. Over 200 people attended, raising over $2,300 to support the hospital.

 

Boston Children’s Hospital League Gala 2019:  Be BoldOn November 23, 2019, the League hosted its annual Gala, the largest fundraiser of the year at the House of Blues. This hugely successful evening of fundraising was highlighted by a Venetian backdrop and included endless dancing, bold colors and exciting silent and live auctions. The second year of the Young Professionals Party provided an opportunity for new philanthropists to engage with the League’s mission.  Overall, the evening raised over $422,077 for Boston Children’s Hospital.

 

FORD v FERRARI Premiere Fundraiser– On November 14, 2019, the Showcase Cinemas in Chestnut Hill was the setting for an exclusive screening in the Boston area of Ford v Ferrari. This League fundraiser raised $3,200 from ticket sales all in support of programs at Boston Children’s Hospital. 

 

Fall Board Meeting 2019– On November 6, 2019, the League hosted its annual Fall Board Meeting at the Patient Entertainment Center at Boston Children’s Hospital. The guest speaker was Marcie Brostoff, Vice President and Associate Chief Nurse for Patient Care and Clinical Operations. Marcie presented an overview of the hospital’s Emergency Services and Management, the role and demand for Behavioral Response Teams, Physical and Occupation Therapies and the focus on providing the best possible Family Experience. In addition, four newly inducted Board Members were recognized and welcomed.

 

Bloomingdale’s Fashionable Fundraiser– On September 15, 2019, the League held another successful Fashionable Fundraiser at Bloomingdale’s, Chestnut Hill. Over 80 women gathered for a morning of private shopping and a champagne brunch, all for the benefit of children being treated at Boston Children’s Hospital.

 

Eversource Walk for Boston Children’s Hospital 2019– On June 9, 2019, the League raised close to $30,000 by participating in the Eversource Walk, all in support of Child Life Services at BCH. Special thanks to all who walked on behalf of the League and donated to this very important annual fundraiser for Boston Children’s Hospital.

 

Story Book Brunch– On May 18, 2019, the League hosted a first ever Story Book Brunch at Belmont Country Club. League Members and friends of the League brought their children and grandchildren to spend of morning of food, crafts and a special reading of Curious George. All enjoyed a visit from the BCH Laughter League Clowns. Participants donated over 140 books to the Yawkey Family Inn at BCH for patients and families to enjoy.

 

Spring Board Meeting 2019– On May 8, 2019, the League hosted the annual Spring Board Meeting at Belmont Country Club. We heard from guest speakers Kathryn E. Akerman, MD, MPH, Director of the Female Athletic Program in the Division of Sports Medicine, and Catherine Gordon, MD, MSc, Chief of the Division of Adolescent/Young Adult Medicine. In addition, the League presented Hilary Smiley, Assistant Vice President of Leadership Gifts, a donation of over $600,000 for Boston Children’s Hospital, allowing for the continuation of critical programs necessary for the optimal care of children and families.

 

Culinary Adventure at Clarke Living– On April 11, 2019, Clarke Living in Boston threw a fabulous event to raise funds for the Boston Children’s Hospital League. Tom Clarke kicked off the evening with the introduction of two celebrity chefs, two-time Chopped winner Tatiana Rosana of Outlook Kitchen and Bar at the Envoy Hotel, and Dave Becker of Sweet Basil, Balani and Juniper restaurants. It was a terrific spring evening with all the proceeds “bringing laughter and smiles,” funding programs for all children being treated at Boston Children’s Hospital.
