The League completed a $500,000 pledge to establish The Children's Hospital League Angiogenesis Innovation Fund to support the late Dr. Judah Folkman's visionary cancer research. Angiogenesis inhibitors have received FDA approval in the U.S. for cancer and for the treatment of macular degeneration and are also approved in 27 other countries. Largely because of Folkman's research, the possibility of antiangiogenic therapy is now on a firm scientific foundation in the treatment of cancer, as well asmany non-neoplastic diseases as well. To date, the League has donated $1,350,000 to cancer research.
